Like any material, floorboards have both advantages and disadvantages – therefore, when buying, it is important to proceed from the tasks set. Among the main advantages of the material can be noted its strength and wear resistance, thermal insulation properties. In addition, floorboards are made from natural products, so they do not contain elements harmful to humans. Also, the material has excellent resistance to static electricity.
Among the disadvantages, we can note the need for constant maintenance and updating. In order for the material not to lose its aesthetic qualities, it needs to be either painted or varnished. Since the properties of the tree imply combustibility, the likelihood of the appearance of insects and fungi, it is necessary to attend to the issues of fire and sanitary treatment. It is also worth noting that floorboards do not have the best sound insulation properties, but this is easily solved by installing additional substrates that enhance sound insulation properties.
Deck board. This type of boards does not have any special locks. Deck boards are laid by connecting the gaps between the plates. This material is not afraid of any atmospheric influences, so it is advisable to use it in rooms with high humidity. Both coniferous and deciduous wood can be used as a base for deck boards. In addition, the material does not require treatment with antiseptic compounds, since the properties of the material allow it not to deform under various influences.
Parquet board. The material is initially processed, which allows you to immediately engage in the arrangement of the floor. Such boards have excellent mechanical strength and presentability, but they require appropriate care. The installation of the material will not cause difficulties – a beginner can cope with the procedure, but it is best to entrust such a task to a professional because of the rather high price of the boards.
Engineering board. Such boards are made of various wood species (for example, birch) and have a two-layer structure. The upper layer of the material performs a decorative role – it preserves the beautiful contours of the wood and its natural color. In comparison with the lining, engineering boards are more expensive, however, they look as presentable as possible.
Tongue-and-groove board. Strong and durable material with special spike slots for fixing. This method of fastening allows you to connect materials with each other, preventing possible dust and dirt from entering.
